San Diego Young Aztecs RFC
Dear Aztec Youth Rugby family,
As we enter our eleventh season of Aztec youth rugby in San Diego, we’d like to begin by saying thank you to all the people who have worked so hard to make our club a success. Without the commitment of dedicated parents, coaches and certainly our players, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
A quick look back
As the Young Aztecs rugby club began to take shape, we talked a lot about the core values that make up the foundation of our club. By combining the joy of rugby with an emphasis on commitment, effort, respect, honesty, sportsmanship and a sense of community, we have been able to make a difference in the lives of many. Whether you played rugby professionally or have only recently been introduced to the sport, the sense of belonging to a worldwide community is real and will stay with you throughout life. In joining the growing legion of rugby fans around the world, you have given your child the chance to play one of the greatest games along with the opportunity to be part of one of the strongest fraternities and sororities in the world. Wherever you travel, locally or around the globe, you will find you have friends and supporters you never knew. For many of our players, tomorrow is just the beginning.
Today
We now have club programs that support players from 5 to 19 years old along with a continually expanding high school age league that stretches across San Diego County. Our numbers are growing as is the awareness around town that we have something special happening here. Through rugby, we have the opportunity to show our children that everyone can be a positive, confident, successful member of their community.
Tomorrow
As we head deeper into the season, we’d like to reiterate some of our goals for the club:
Respect the game, players, coaches, parents and opponents at all times
Embrace all players, regardless of athletic ability
Strive to win, but value sportsmanship and integrity more
Promote a safe and positive environment in which our athletes can participate.
Expect commitment and support from every member of the club
Congratulate great effort wherever you find it
Take responsibility for your actions and your community
Anticipate a community that goes beyond rugby
Live by our code of conduct and behavior
Leave the competition on the field; treat our opponents as family, before and after the match
Sincerely,
Steve Marshall
